Deciding where to go
Following is a typical conversation which might take place when we are deciding whether to pack up and move camp, and if so, where we will go next.
There is no particular speaker to each comment, either of us would be likely to say any of the following
The conversation took place the other day when we were in Smythesdale, Victoria and had about a week to fill before we wanted to be back in Geelong.
"It's too cold here, we have to go somewhere warmer."
"We can put the heater on."
""The toilet needs emptying, the ground is too hard to dig a hole. We need to find a dump point"
"The toilet could last another day."
"Normally you would have started packing things by now, instead you're lying on the bed."
"I am a bit tired."
"We could go across to Ararat then down to Lake Bolac and back to Geelong, or
we could go up to Maryborough turn left to Avoca, then Ararat and back on the Western Highway to Geelong,
or down to Dunkeld on the Glenelg Highway to Penshurst,
turn left again and head to Mortlake then to Lismore, and back to Geelong.
There appear to be free or low cost camp sites everywhere along these triangles."
"We could spend a couple of days in each area and be back in Geelong before Christmas."
"We only want to do about 400klm total anyway."
"Why don't we just stay another day?"
"OK, I'm sure the toilet won't overflow by then."
And so we stay another day.
I think I know what the word 'hedonistic' means now.
